BIG Change

In this performance we want to invite stories about how the global challenges (socially and/or climate-wise) effects our daily lives and in which ways we hear the call for change.

What is –or has been – a tipping point for you? What helped create change in your life? Sometimes we are stuck, getting nowhere, some times change just happens without effort. Some times we are alone facing a challenge, other times unexpected help appears just when we need it the most. What was a moment in your life when you just had to change? When did you have enough? Did anyone help you? What did you learn? Come and share your stories about hopes and fears, about the shame, pride and love that can be related to change.

Village Playback Theatre, NYC, USA Saturday 15.30-17.00 (Interpretation English-Finnish-English, tulkkaus)

In celebration of this conference’s theme around Big Bang,  Village Playback Theatre invites audiences to share stories of simplicity or complexity, small or big life moments, and stories of similarity or difference [or anything in between].  As our neighborhoods, cities and countries changing into more and more complex environments, your individualism is always important.  Raise your voice.

Village Playback Theatre is an innovative applied theater company dedicated to telling the stories of people who struggle to be heard. Based in New York City, NY, USA.

Village Playback Theatre focuses on transforming communities one story at a time. Since 2002, this innovative applied theater company has listened to audience members’ personal stories and crafted them into improvised performances that make a powerful impact on both the tellers and their communities. Based in New York City, VPT provides meaningful theater experiences for many people whose access may be limited as well as for regular theatergoers.

VPT performs on location: in hospitals and schools, community centers and senior centers, day treatment programs and prisons. Past audiences include those coping with mental illness, addiction, homelessness, history of incarceration and physical and cognitive disabilities. Public performances are also offered several times a year. No matter the setting, seeing a story “played back” can bring a tremendous sense of validation and belonging.
